The Catholic Inquisition published the book that arguably could be called the most blood-soaked publication in human history. Malleus Maleficarum - or "The Witches' Hammer" - indoctrinated the world to the dangers of freethinking women and instructed the clergy how to locate, torture, and destroy them. During three hundred years of witch hunts, the Church burned at the stake an astounding five million women. RP 1999: "All witchcraft comes from carnal lust, which is in women insatiable," Malleus Maleficarum…I don't think you can understand patriarchy unless you look at the fact that fear is at the core, fear that female sexuality will somehow become this chaotic force and nature will become this chaotic force overtaking us. So we have to have everything very tightly controlled and hierarchically ordered…observations from Eusebius set the stage for an age of Inquisitions, witch hunts, and burnings. When the orthodox gained military support…sometime after the Emperor Constantine became Christian in the fourth century, the penalty for heresy escalated. This trend climaxed hundreds of years later when the Gnostics, and anyone who followed goddess beliefs, became the targets of holocaust. Throughout Europe from the 15th to the 17th centuries, nine million people were accused of being witches. Eighty-five percent of those killed for the crime of witchcraft were women. This women's holocaust has roots at the Council of Nicea, the world's first EcuMENical gathering. Whereas Da Vinci Code claims that "the royal bloodline of Jesus Christ is the source of the most enduring legend of all time - the Holy Grail," Rock Prophecy argues that it is not the bloodline of Jesus that has been lost, it is his line of thinking that has been concealed: RP 1999: Jesus preached that everyone deserves the same. Constantine's crime at Nicea was to revise these teachings and redefine Jesus as a figurehead of hierarchy.
DC 2003: Not even the feminine association with the left-hand side could escape the Church's defamation. In France and Italy, the words for "left" - gauche and sinistra - came to have deeply negative overtones, while their right-hand counterparts rang of righteousness, dexterity, and correctness. Midwives also were killed for their heretical practice of using medical knowledge to ease the pain of childbirth - a suffering, the Church claimed, that was God's rightful punishment for Eve's partaking of the Apple of Knowledge, thus giving birth to the idea of Original Sin. With this creed the Church of the Empire offered men authority to order women into submission…the Fall of Nature explains why, in Western culture, all impulsive acts, all behaviors that are inspired by nature, have been for centuries regarded as sin…Campbell notes, "We speak with derogation of 'the nature religions.' You see, with that Fall in the Garden nature was regarded as corrupt"…In his book Counsel for Kings, eleventh century Islamic philosopher Ghazali reports, "When Eve ate fruit which He had forbidden…the Lord…punished women with:…menstruation;…childbirth;…pregnancy; not having control over her own person; a lesser share in inheritance; her liability to be divorced and inability to divorce; its being lawful for men to have four wives, but for a woman to have only one husband; the fact that she must stay secluded in the house; the fact that she must keep her head covered inside the house;…the fact that she must not go outside of the house unless accompanied by a near relative;…disqualification for rulership and judgeship…"
DC 2003: The days of the goddess were over. The pendulum had swung. Mother Earth had become a man's world, and the gods of destruction and war were taking their toll. The male ego had spent two millennia running unchecked by its female counterpart. RP 1999: In short, society became A Man's World.
